🪙 Zcash record high: The privacy-focused coin shot up 10% yesterday to break the $1,500 mark and is up 36% in the past week and nearly 200% in the past month. Our own Slava Rubin chose it as an investment pick in June when it was under $500.
🏡 Construction data: U.S. housing starts fell 2.6% last month, well below expectations, largely due to a 22% decrease in multifamily starts. Single family housing starts actually increased by 7.6%, to the highest mark since March. Building permits also fell nationally by 2.7%, with both sectors showing declines.
🚀 SpaceX/Tesla merger?: Elon Musk has once again hinted at a merger between SpaceX and Tesla, which would combine two of the biggest companies in the world. If the combination happens, it could convert pre-IPO shares of SpaceX that are locked up into publicly traded shares of the new company.
🤖 Exein fundraise: The Italian physical AI startup has become the latest unicorn in the sector after raising $270 million at a $1.7 billion valuation, more than double its valuation from December.
🏡 Pending sales rise: Pending home sales increased 0.3% in August but are still down 4.7% year-over-year, and expectations are for sales to drop in the coming months as mortgage rates rise due to the Fed rate hike.
🎨 Monet could break record: One of Claude Monet’s “Iris” paintings is going on the auction block next month in Paris at Sotheby’s with a pre-sale high estimate of €30 million, which would be a new record for any painting at an auction in France.
