📰 NOTABLE NEWS
📊 U.S. jobs report: The economy added 147,000 jobs in June, and the unemployment rate fell slightly from 4.2% to 4.1%, lessening pressure on the Fed to cut rates to help the labor market.
🪙 Crypto VC funding: Despite a strong June which saw $2.5 billion in VC funding to crypto startups, Q2 saw a 22% decline in total funding, though if you strip out March’s outlier $2 billion Binance deal, funding actually increased over the last three months.
🏢 OpenAI partners with Oracle: The AI startup signed a $30 billion, 4.5 gigawatt cloud computing deal with Oracle which represents one-quarter of all current data center capacity in the U.S. - meaning that multiple new data centers are likely to be built.
🎨 Art Basel sales trends: Sales for the top five galleries at the blue-chip art fair were down 35% from last year, even as the number of artists whose work was sold increased. This broadening reflects an overall industry trend of a higher volume of sales at lower price points.
🚀 VC funding gender gap: Only 0.7% of U.S. VC funding in 2025 has gone to women-led startups, a significant drop from last year’s 2% and the lowest percentage since record-keeping began in 2013.
🏡 Detroit sues RE blockchain company: RealToken — a company that offers fractionalized shares of real estate on the blockchain — is being sued by Detroit for more than $500,000 in blight violations across more than 400 properties the company’s investors own.
