📰 NOTABLE NEWS

📊 PCE inflation reports: The Fed’s preferred inflation measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, showed a 0.4% monthly gain in April and a 3.8% annual gain. The core PCE index, which excludes food and energy costs, rose 0.2% monthly and 3.3% annually. The annual readings were the highest since 2023 and makes it likely the Fed will not cut interest rates anytime soon.

🚀 Innio IPO: The gas engine manufacturer is looking to raise more than $2 billion in its public offering at a valuation exceeding $20 billion, as investor demand for AI “picks and shovels” plays continues to grow. The company supplies equipment to data centers and has seen those orders increase by 16x since 2020.

🎨 Art auction prediction markets: Kalshi has launched new event contracts tied to art auctions, bringing the art world and prediction market world together. Some of the markets concern whether artists will break their auction records this year, and some concern the specific price an artwork will sell for, with more to come in advance of the fall auction season.

🏡 New home sales: Sales of newly-built homes fell by 6.2% in April to a level well below expectations, and are now down 11.3% year-over-year. This is leading to an increase in unsold inventory, which combined with high borrowing costs is likely to lead to price cuts.

🏢 Office investment sales up: U.S. office investment sales hit $20.5 billion in Q1, up a whopping 38.6% year-over-year, as institutional investors and REITs return to the sector, nearly matching their total 2025 investment already this year.

🤖 OpenRouter doubles valuation: The popular AI gateway OpenRouter raised $113 million in a Series B round at a $1.3 billion valuation, more than double its $547 million valuation a year ago.
