🚘 DUBAI CAR AUCTION

2014 Pagani Zonda LM Roadster (RM Sotheby’s)
RM Sotheby’s Dubai supercar auction saw seven sales above $1 million, led by an $11.1 million sale for the one-of-one 2014 Pagani Zonda LM Roadster, a record-breaking sale for the brand. Another Pagani Coupé sold for $4.3 million, and a 2022 Aston Martin Valkyrie Coupé sold for $2.65 million. That latter sale seems impressive until it’s compared to the original $3 million sticker price.
➨ TAKEAWAY: Even for top-of-the-market supercars, scarcity is still important. The Pagani Roadster is the only one ever made, and its sale set a record even though it’s been driven nearly 6,000 miles. It doesn’t hurt that it was the first Roadster offered at a public sale since 2019. The Aston Martin may only have around 50 miles on its odometer, but it is one of a comparatively larger population of 150 and apparently it has been re-selling consistently under sticker price.

🪙 CRYPTO UPDATE
Bitcoin’s surge has fallen just short of the $100,000 mark for now, leading some to believe the post-election rally has leveled out and prices will start falling after President Trump is inaugurated on January 20. While Bitcoin’s momentum has slowed, Ripple (XRP) surged close to the $3 mark, reflecting a 90% weekly gain and 437% monthly gain.
➨ TAKEAWAY: It is easy to forget that Bitcoin was still below $70,000 a month ago, and that its meteoric rise since the election should not be overlooked. Still, there is a growing sense that the bull run might be short-lived, and there are indicators that XRP may have hit a peak as well. As with all things crypto, the market volatility means that Bitcoin could hit the $100K mark today and prove the naysayers wrong.
